Valve Guides - May Be Wrong Section

Hi All

Jumped a couple of teeth on the inlet side of the engine and bent all 8 valves.

Purchased new valves and was just starting to get ready to lap them in when I noticed very fine cracks in the valve guides...

Is this normal wear or do they need replacing?

You'll have to get these replaced as there is a chance they'll break off and drop into the engine.

My gut said I would have to replace them...... nothing is ever simple..... :-)

Whilst its apart I'd be inclined to grind all the valves and fit new stem seals too. You could also lightly polish the ports too to improve your gas flow if you're feeling keen ;-)
Also, when was the chain set changed?

Got new Balance Shaft and Cam Chain kits to fit.

It was the chain that started all the problems. Three of the plastic guides failed and shredded into bits causing the chain to run slack and jump teeth.

Would you mess with the exhaust side or just leave well alone as nothing was damaged? (I am NOT looking for work but I dont want to have to strip the engine again if I can help it)

If it was me, I'd defo change all the stem seals so you may as well grind the other valves too. Also make sure to remove the sump to get all the broken guide bits out.
