New Powerline

Ordered a new PowerLine kit. I've gone for ZyXEL this time, as I've read a lot of good things about them. There is a comparison I read where they came 3rd overall, and were still a lot cheaper than the other units.

Also going to be using new cat6 cable everywhere as well and throwing all the old cables out.

Zyxel kit has come up in the market recently, I am sure you're CAT5E was alright but at the price no harm with new and going CAT6.

Yeah, the router I have for 80mb fibre is a ZyXEL one, and it's been rock solid for the past 12 months so far. It also has lots of nice features according to the owner manual, but my ISP lock you out of it as it's a "managed" service they offer.

Do they block basic port forwarding etc? At least if the service is bundled in you go back to them if it doesn't work.

No, I have limited access to the router, which does allow access to the port forwarding section.

I spent many hours researching up on these as i do residential server installs now

I get about 22MB/s on my solwise 500av units, the main problem with all ar7400 homeplugs is that they just drop out for no reason and you have either wait or just unplug and plug back in

I spent a few hours last night looking over the reviews and comparisons of various 500mb Gigabit sets, and the ZyXEL always seem to come highly rated.

^^ even mentions toe Solwise kit you mention, and that they are slower than the ZyXEL ones.

ahh but solwise have brought out new 500mbit homeplug's since then 😛

Either way for me, it's going to be a step up from the 200mb ones, given they keep dropping out. Plus, the downstairs access is still limited to 10mb/s due to the 100mb port on them.

Will be nice having everything gigabit once this is all set up.
