Hey guys hope you all had a great new Year!!!

Recently bought a subwoofer off a mate Active 12' FLI 1000watts ..... got it all set up today and it sounds dreadful.... i dont know if the subs on its last legs or what or amp but its totally dire... tried Gain + Frequency and the subwoofer is totally flat and bottoms out at such a low volume....

Previously in my old Clio i had a 10' Edge active woofer from halfords and this was so much more powerful and clear compared to the Fli system.....

Do you think that a 10' Edge system in the Astra Coupe would be ok or is the woofer too small, and should i go for the 12' system instead.

The fli unit is yes and the potential new unit would be I prefer active enclosures

Know sub n amp all in one is not good
Mine is all vibe n juice system no issue

TBH, the size of the woofer isn't everything. It depends on what type of music you are going to be playing. A 15" will usually drop a lot lower than a 12", and a 10" will normally have a much cleaner "kick" than the 12".

Is the new sub in a box already? Was the box specifically made to suite the woofer, and has the correct internal volume required for the sub to work efficiently?

Hey the Fli unit was already enclosed as the amp is built in, even replaced it all with new Vibe wiring .... reset literally everything and worked up from there and its just dreadful.... it bottoms out too easy someone said it sounds as if the coil is faulty on the woofer hence why its losing its kick so quick...

Ive never really had any problems with Active enclosures before, i just find it Odd that cheap Edge from halfords could be a better solution since ive used them before and have been excellent,

10' woofer did seem the best option before as i had all types of music and was excellent,

lpf (low profile filter) needs setting or you have the gain turned up to much 🙂
are you running from RCA or high level input ?

the gain has been turned down i tried increasing again just past half this morning then adjusted frequency for punchier bass rather than low which is for deep bass, it still sounds like a wet fart lol... the lpf option isnt avaible on my control unit i only have gain and frequency ... im guessing its a 2009 model which is one of there first units, that could be why its poorly.

so yours dont have the freq knob ?
do you have any ajustment on you head unit for the RCA feeding the audio signal?
you need to get it receiving 80Hz on the filter other wise it will be playing music and not sub bass and that can sound like a wet fart
failing all the above take it back and tell him its shat and you want a refund then go buy a good branded item 🙂 only ever seen the fli units once before never liked it
had a JBL active bass tube in my evo that was good for £70

it has frequency nob which if i increase the bass becomes more punchy definetly on my HU all i have is Bass set to +4 and trebble on +3 - SLA set to 0 - Mid -0 and FAD 0 - there really isnt much control over the amp except for that :-(

Turn all your controls on the amp to zero, turn your radio to your normal listening level, with all the levels on your radio set to zero. Turn the gain on the amp until you here the sub distort & back it off a bit then increase the bass until that distorts & back it off & that'll be your amp setup.
If it still sounds shite, try turning everything off & pushing the cone in gently around the centre & see if it sounds scratchy it knackered. it should be free moving.

I know you can test a sub with a volt meter & set it to ohms connect the leads to the terminals on the sub & push the sub & see if it reads the ohms of the sub within +or- of the subs rating.

I've not tried that one but I read it somewhere.

Just an update :

Turns out unit was completely dead... had it tested... voice coil or something???

Anyway got myself a nice new 12' Active Fli 1200watts :-)
Sounding better already i know these units dont produce massive amounts of bass but it's getting run in slowly anyway so hopefully expect better results :-)
