I have a 2000 model Holden Vectra 2.2L automatic which has a problem with the radiator. There is smoke coming from the radiator when it is up to temperature and I assume this is the from a leak in the oil line that runs through the radiator (not sure if this is an oil cooler or to warm the engine?).
Obviously the best solution would be to replace the radiator. However this car has traveled 300,000km so the parts + labour are more expensive than the vehicle is worth, since the radiator requires the bumper off to get it out.
I'm considering a simple fix by cutting the oil lines and reconnecting them to bypass the radiator. What might happen if I do this?
