Port Forwarding

I've managed to set up my own webserver on my laptop. But....I'm having a few problems getting port forwarding to work, so that any request on port 80 goes to the laptop's IP address.

I've set it up so that anything hitting port 80, 8080 and 443 (all HTTP/S) forwards to 192.168.0.4, which I've assigned statically to my laptop.

When I target the dynamic URL for my IP address, http://matt1206.serveftp.net all I get is the remote config page for my router. I haven't even got remote configuration turned on.

Router is a Netgear DG834G v2

Any ideas?

Have you tried disabling remote connection in your router? if you have selected port 80 to go to the lappy it might be over riding it for remote connection. You could try changing the port number or your remote connection too.

I have turned remove connection off. I might try rebooting the router to see if that does anything.

Nope, still trying to connect me to the remote managment on the router.

I've re-enabled remote management, set port 65530 as the port number, and set it so that you can only access the page from my laptops IP address, and yet it's still getting the remote management page from just the IP address???

Are you trying to connect to it from inside your network? because that wont work. You cant use the same port number for 2 different things I found that with trying to use radmin using the ip and port number

just tried to ping it from here and it gives me your ip address so thats working. What are you trying to put up a server for web pages or for ftp?

web server, I'm also going to try updating the firmware on the router as well, as it's a few versions old.

Cracked it, there was an extra policy which needed chaning in the linux firewall 🙂
