Question About Timing

Hi All,

Car has been dead for about 3 weeks and the new cam chain and balance chain kits have spent the last two weeks waiting to be used.

Yesterday was D Day and the engine was stripped.

Both chains were slack and several plastic chain guides were in bits with large pieces of plastic missing...... I am guessing the sump has collected them so I have an extra job of plastic hunting as well.

I am fairly sure the chain has only jumped a tooth or two on both the exhaust and inlet and that it did this as the engine was switched off..... the car drove fine to its current resting place....

I have looked at all the fitting threads and the advice is great.

My question is this.....

With everthing lined up as per the pictures...

How does that timed postion relate to the pistons?

Is that timing position with piston 1 at TDC?

yes number 1 piston is roughly at TDC, it isn't 100% at TDC because the cams usually settle just off TDC so when you time the engine the crank is just past TDC.

5 hours later and the new chains are on and engine timed up.

Oil sump removed and full of broken plastic.....

So next step is to clean sump, new oil filter and flushing oil and start her up.

If she runs..... then new oil filter and new oil and hopefully another 40,000 trouble free miles......
