P1404 And P0404

Wondered if someone could point me in the right direction. I have a egr blanking plate and cheater fitted and was driving the car this morning and the codes P1404 and P0404 came up. Obvisouly i presume this is a fault with the cheater. Its been pretty cold so maybe a component has gone.

It has happened once before on a long motorway run but only P0404 came up and cleared it self so thought it was nothing.

Any help is much appreciated.

How long have you had the cheater fitted?

These codes are definitely related to egr as i have had these codes previously myself whether you have a problem with your cheater or not i do not know

could be a bad connection or the egr cheater has got damp

Hey sorry have responded to comments sooner have been away. Ive had the cheater on for about 5 6 months now and not a problem till about a month ago. Ill get the meter out today and check everything over. Maybe just a resister gone bad.

just bought a blanking plate and cheater,30 miles and a p0404 came up.
Daft question but is there a right way up for the cheater? Mine is diode/resisters facing up.

cheers mat 90% sure i have? Have had the head off last week,the loom may have twisted round?
In the van off to work now,will check it tonight

Yeah me too actually, had the blanking plate and cheater fitted around November and I have had the egr fault codes consistently since then. They get cleared as they always appear when I get the P0300 fault that has dogged me for the past six months, been running realtime diagnostics during this period so clearing meaningless fault codes while I drive is very much the norm these days.

Yeah I think I might have to say yes to a replacement as I have checked it numerous times and its fitted correctly and appears undamaged so something must be faulty on the cheater.
I'm inclined to blame the long journey to the colony and rough handling from those idiots at Australia Post...

I would also check the resistance of your loom whilst waiting for the replacement

unplug ecu connectors from engine bay and identify the wiring pin and run a volt meter from there and your egr sensor connector

Ok mate, drop me a PM with your order number of the e-mail address you used, and I'll get a new one sent out. We do have issues with them sometimes, so I'm pretty certain it's a dodgy resister or something.
