Water Pump Question

I've had a question from a customer via the shop, and I'm not 100% sure on the answer.

I am after some advice please.
I am getting the water pump changed on my car and don't know about any additional parts I need to buy.
A guy said the timing chain cover needs to come off to do this therefore new cam bolt and seal required.
Haynes says nothing about this and does not state anything extra needs to be replaced.
Can you confirm that the cover needs to come off please for this job??
Is there anything other than pump and gasket I need/should replace?

it doesn't providing you have the tool to retain the the balance shaft timing chain

either the exhaust manifold or drive shaft has to be removed

there is a cover on the timing chain cover where the bolts go through the water pump and onto the cover via the balance chain,

you basically remove each bolt from the water pump side and replace it with a bolt on the timing chain cover side using the tool thus not touching the chain nor timing

don't be fooled this is a nasty job to do

Well the price I am paying whatever route they need to go down is up to them as long as it is done properly.
I will not be doing this myself

Help!!
I ordered 1 of these yesterday. Phoned them up to try and pay for a decent delivery and they could do nothing.
It may not come till new year. The car is going in on Monday to be done over christmas. Where can I get the tool from by Monday as all the company's seem to be internet??

Local VX dealer should be next day if not in stock.....but won't be cheap

Sorted. Spoke to someone different this time and they have changed the delivery.

VX I think would be after christmas as I can't see the parts department being open on Monday.
Eurocar parts do 1 but it's ordered.
It's on a next day so I hope to god that it will arrive on Monday.

My local one is open Christmas Eve, only problem is postage / courier

I gotta stitch him up a bit as I have just ordered crank seal, bolt and gasket which will be delivered by 4th.
He can't put it back together until the parts arrive and I wander what he gonna say?

I got my waterpump holding tool at a days notice and it was actually £29.00, (though that was trade), usefull tool. I did my pump in about 3.5 hours on the drive, did it all from the top on the Zafira, not a pleasant job really as you cant see due to the Zafs rather short engine bay... but not difficult either, just time consuming.

Any engine job is too big for me.
I don't have a garage nor a drive. It sucks as I love working on cars.
Well, cancelled all bottom end bits and gaskets/seals as he reminded me we were not taking off the chain cover. I knew that:whistle:!!
As far as I am concerned once the pump is changed I can then start again with fault finding if any remian. He quoted 3.5 and for less than half the price of the last place and they quoted 6 hours. I can understand adding on hours just in case, but 2.5 hours at around 45 an hour, that's not right.
