Cam Chain Advice

Hi All,

I have a Vectra 2001 with the Z22SE Engine. Milage is around 70k.

I drove her home and parked her without any problems but when I came to start her she would not start. Having checked the fuel and spark etc I have now discovered that the timing has jumped...

( If I had found and read this forum first that may well have been the first place I looked (y) )

Anyway the exhaust cam has jumped 1 1/2 links which I think is about 9 degrees out ... so no compression no fire.

I have turned the engine over by hand and I can not see or hear anything that sounds too terminal

Does anyone know how many teeth you need to jump before you start to get metal on metal?

Looking at all the kits around and the comments on here I am thinking of using the FAI TCK2 kit

I think I know the answer to this ( or my wallet does)

Should I be replacing the Balance shaft chain at the same time?

Again thinking of using the FAI TCK3 kit.

Any views or suggestions gratefully received.

the only way to tell if the valves have hit the pistons is to replace the chain and see what happens.

Due to the age of your car both the chain kits need changing, the FAI kits will be fine for your veccy.

Vocky - thanks for that.

Once the chains are changed are there any other bits that need to be done?

Drop sump and clean oil pick ups?
Run flushing oil through engine?

might be worth checking if your water pump is leaking - they actually leak oil rather than coolant on the z22se engine o_O

depends if anything has broken off from the chain guides, but you might be okay and just the tensioner failed.
