Im Thinking Faulty Lifter

Hey guys

Just want to run this buy you and get your thoughts

I have a Zafira 2002 Z22se here which has just had a new head put on.

here is what is happening

When you first start the car (if it was running fine when you turned it off) it runs perfectly on all 4 cylinders for about 30secondsto 1 minute
After 30 seconds to 1 minute the car then runs only on 3 cylinders and will do so until the car reaches running temperature then it will run on all 4 again

Now i did a compression test on the car while it running on all 4 cylinders and the compression in all 4 is great

I then did a compression test 1 minute after starting the engine cold (when the car starts to run on 3 cylinders) this time i had 0 compression on cylinder 1

I then drove the car for about 2 kilometers on 3 cylinders until it started running on all 4 again at which i again did a compression test and again all 4 cylinders were perfect

Im thinking one of the lifters in the new head are faulty ??

what are you guys thoughts

Ok here is where im up to

Pulled the car down again today and checked the timing chain to make sure i did not put it on one link out (all was sweet)

Next i pulled the cams off and replaced all the lifters on cylinder 1 put it all back together and still no improvement (one minute it runs fine the next i loose compression on cylinder 1 again)

The head was brand NEW but it seems like one of the valves keeps sticking open

any thoughts what to do next? i want to avoid pulling the head off if possible

were the valve stems oiled during assembly, I learn't the hard way many years ago that if you don't oil them you will be removing the head and rebuilding it again.

I cant be 100% sure on that

I buy these heads in from the USA and so far i have never had a issue with 1 until now (purchased at least 15)

looks like i need to pull the head off :mad: again

its really wierd

everytime when the car is cooled down it runs on all 4 cylinders (has compression) them about 60 seconds later if you let it idle cylinder 1 drops compression

you need to whip the head off and see whats going on, it's either a blocked oil way to the hydraulic lifters or the valves / collets :cry:

everything looks normal but then again it starts normally every time also
