Vectra b steering wheel changes from left to right

Hello i not long got it 2001 veccy 150 sri when i drive it straight the wheel is out down to 1side i.e the left then drive along round a few corners and then drive along in a straight line its now off 2 the right front, end has very little play in steering arms any body had to put a rack on for this

You can just replace the arms they are about £25 each side and will take about an hour the rack can be done by dropping the back of the sub frame down

sounds like you have the same problem I do. Check for play in the telescoping part between the two universal joints at the bottom of the column from inside the car.

I can feel all the play there is at the overlapping crash joint, no play to speak of at the wheels. my other Vectra is different and has about 5mm of play side to side invthe front wheels - that I sure is the rack, but it keeps passing MOTs.

Forgot to say, check the ends of the universal joint clamps are pinched tightly onto the column and rack pinion shafts, they used to be commonly slack several years ago.

Sounds like your tie rods they can't fail them as they are not on the computer mad but true mines was the mounting rubber on the rack to sub frame abit like the d bushes on the anti roll bar but bigger
