Front engine rwd, what gearbox?

It's time to get an engine sorted for my chevette project, the 1.3 OHV just isn't good enough.

Obvious options are the 1.6 8v from a nova, C20XE or a V6 maybe but they all weigh a lot.

So, I've decided to try to get a 2.2 to work.

The intention is to use a z22se to begin with, iron out all the problems and then at some point swap it for a b207r Saab engine.

Problem for me is the gearbox, I don't know what to use, I can't find anyone who has done it, so I don't know what it is suitable.

Has anyone seen it done? Or got any suggestions?

you are in luck, there is a 6 speed gearbox available which bolts straight on, £475 for a 9838 mile manual box

Spalding have shipped parts to the UK before 🙂

I thought about that but I'm not sure how much import duty would hurt? Opel sold them on the continent didnt they? So it might still be an option.

I was hoping there may be a more erm... Easy to source option 🙁

shipping would be about £150 and import duty would be less than £100, so around £725 for an almost brand new 6 speed box, compare that to a M32 and it's a good price.

Plus it will take 500bhp - which is what a few of the solstices have these days :whistle:

I've imported loads and loads of stuff from the states, it isn't as hard as you imagine

That's not so bad then, looks like its an Aisin box very similar to the Isuzu trooper so wouldn't be hard to refresh either.
