electrical issues after engine swap

Hi all

New to posting on this forum, however it has been invaluable for information after swapping my dead (timing chain) z22se for a much more alive one in my astra coupe. Must admit here it was my dad that did the work not me!

However, have a major problem that we just can't fathom - all the things that should work on permanent live (interior light, head lights, hazards etc) don't work at all with key in out or in any position. as soon as the battery is connected the 4 main dash lights come on even if no key (battery, engine outline, as if key is in position two. It's almost as if switched live and permanent live are the wrong way around, however all the wiring is my original. Car tries to start when key is in correct position, doesn't but pretty sure that problem is the immobiliser and ended up with the fault Where transponder loses key codes so less worried about that. I also cannot get my opcom China clone to talk to the ecu, however this could be my lack of ability! Any ideas as to maybe where these two could have swapped?!

Im guessing here, but i would be tempted to say you have an earth missing or something of that sort ?

There is one tiny one on one of the ecu nuts, a large one on the bell housing if i remember correctly held on by a 13mm bolt... erm, thats all i can remember from doing the Zafira.

As far as we can see all earths, including those two are on. It's so infuriating - so close to working!

Im assuming here that you have checked all your fuses etc both in the engine bay box and in the car ?

Im going outside shortly so while im in the garage i will check the Z22se loom i have to see if there any other earth points or what have you.

That what my 1st point and make sure it is clean metal and check all plug plug in correct

Have been checking all these for about a week. Everything seems in order?

Did you reuse your wiring loom or the one on the donor engine?
There are also 3 earth straps connected to the block underneath the inlet, as well as 1 connected to the bell housing.

EDIT: I believe the earth for the ECU connects to the block under the inlet

Yes, entire loom from original car with ecu coil pack and throttle body, fitted to ex-zafira short engine.
All plugs sockets and screw on contacts matched up fine except there is no oil level indicator.

Remove the ecu plugs and check there are no bent pins, also check you have the ecu plugs on the correct sockets. You should have the single "chunky" long ecu wire plugged into the ecu on the right. The plug on the left branches off to injectors/sensors/tb etc.

As for the oil level sensor just swap your sump pan over but make sure its cleaned out first.

Thanks for suggestions, problem sorted found an earth wire not been reconnected to battery!
I tucked it out of the way in hole in the inner wing, so it didn't get caught when swapping the engine, and forgot about it.
Fired up perfectly when attached.
