all bent??

Hey all. My cam chain came off/broke today, ive not fully inspected it yet but i have taken the rocker cover off n can see the chain stil across both cam cogs so whatever happend to the chain happend near the bottom. it happened just as i turned the ignition to start up. i didnt hear any noises at all, just the usual whineing from half the engine. The question is....is there a possible easy way to know if the worst has happened or if im lucky nothings bent???? .. slightly annoyin this happened while the guy rang me back with a quote to change the chain lol

some have been lucky, many have not. a compression check once the new chain has been fitted will reveal the extent of the damage

The chain may not have snapped. It could have been one of the guides or the tensioner. Either way you'll need a new chain kit so it won't do any harm to try one before taking the head off.
If you have to take the head off then it's well worth doing the piston rings while it's off.
