cam chain????

Hi peeps. a few weeks ago my astra developed a rattle n i dismissed it for a rattling manifold heat shield but now its got worse. it did go on acceleration but now i have a constant rattle from the chain area and doesnt go at all under acceleration. does anyone know if this is a case of just changing the tensioner or is it a whole chain replacement job? Cheers in advance

if it is the chain then the entire chain kit should be replaced and if your car is over ten years old I suspect the other chain will also require replacement

Thanks for the reply vocky. unfortunately the chain came off today. dont know if its slipped off or broke but what ever happened did so first turn of the key!!! What is the easiest way to find out if the engines died?? Without taking the head off if possible?!
