Warning Light Again!

Hi there,

Im new to this forum but just have a couple of technical questions i need answering .....

Have the 2.2 Bertone astra coupe, been a great car however had some issues which i cant seem to get resolved.

1) The emissions light came on and i took it back to my mechanic who plugged it in and said it came up with an EGR Fault ( however this was replaced 6 months ago ) He cleared the fault advised running some tank cleaner or something forte through it which i did and this evening the light has re-appeared again after about a week or so, so clearly same problem.

2) Sometimes it wont always start first time and when its getting warm it is idling rough almost like a misfire or going to stall, goes after a while when i boot it but still the problem persists.

3) Final Thing - My Lights on dash sometimes flicker with this idling issue as above, or when im indicating or flash main beams they dip for a moment then return almost like a lack of power, ive had a new battery fitted by GM 1 month ago so again unsure if this is the error.

Any help would be great, and thanks in advance!

lights flicker most likely due to idle and cutting out

suggest egr cheater and blanking late

use search button top right of forum and z22se shop

Hey thanks for the reply, forgive me for being so naive.... i was told that my 2.2 2001 Model coupe wouldnt really benefit from this as there is no ECU upgrade and would cause more harm than good.

Just dont want to go down the road of replacing an expensive part again which could break another 6 months down the line :-(

Just fit an EGR Cheater (£10) and a blanking plate (£8). We've sold almost 1,000 of these over the years, so they must be doing something right!

Ive got egr cheaters & blanking plates fitted to all my cars and not had any problems, if anything they run a lot better!

Yeh just tried to order through here but plates out of stock, is it true that if i leave this much longer with my engine management light on then the car will stop starting all together and engine will shut down, just dont want to wait ages for a part if thats the case.

Remove the egr valve and make sure its closed then refit and leave unplugged. Should be ok for a few days but you will get the eml

Ok not going to cut out on me though at all? hasnt started to stall or anything yet just randomly idling and lack of power.

EGR Cheaters are back in stock, but we've sold the last blanking plates yesterday. I'll pop to VX tomorrow and get some more.
