brake probblems ???? HELP !!! ergent

Ok let me set the sceen

driving going straight on over a roundabout.... guy in white van (typical) does not look right and pulles out i hammer the breaks very hard ... stopping in time thankfully.

However now when im driving i have 2 warning lights on on the right hand side of the clocks (where petrol light would be),,, Traction Light, well i think its this its a light of a picture of a car skidding and the ABS light .. both constantly lit i tryed turning off and on again and they stay lit.

Any ideas .. im thinking worst and something broke in my sudden stop .. but maybe they just need resetting ot somthing ?

Any help would be greatfull

ok that was my first post now onto whats happen lately

i got in car after work and was breaking hard just to see if abs was still working it did it judderd etc and seems to be working .. i turn of engine and turn back on and lights have now all gone yipppeeee .. well so i thought .. now the breaks seem to good .. i hardly press the pedel and im allmost though the windscreen ... :s whats happend to my breaks .. any one know

Sounds very odd, cant work out whats happened!!

Hmmmm if this was an old car with no assistance then there is no way a light press of the brakes would throw you forward. So if we think about it then there must be something in the abs system that makes it come on? in theory. Have you tried disconnecting ur batt to see if that resets your ecu?

only thing i can think of is to disconect the battery for a while to reset the ecu on the car notsure.gif

yep, I'd also go for a battery disconnect, or a trip to Vauxhall for a tech-2 session

I had these same 2 lights come on after a rolling road session once. I just turned the car off and back on again and it cleared. It hasn't happened since.

its not so much the 2 lights now its fact breaks seem very sharp ... and not much pedal travel to on or off

disconnect the batt, if that doesnt work then it may have to do with the brake line. i.e. a kink so when you tap it it get pressure automatically, or a leak would def set off abs and trac control lights.

possibly had air in the system and now it's cleared

if your brake fluid is older than 2 years get it replaced, the fluid absorbs water

i taken it to garage and they all say its breaking far to sharp ... gonna try new pads and see if it helps .. old pads were very glazed over .... question is tho how could abs being buggerd effect the breaks getting better ?

ok new pads on and yes its a little better yet still very sharp .. i have left battery of wile im here at work .. will report back when im home to see if its got any better .. its such a strange probblem this im not sure what to do ?

ok left battery of no effect .. all lights are out now so i think abs unit is fine .. me and my friend took a look and we think its a sticking caliper .. as the right front wheel wont spin freely when of the ground and when we tryed to take the caliper off it was pretty stuck

could this be my probblem ? if its a sticking caliper ?
