how to guide for replacing rear coil spring

Hi how easy is it to change the rear coil spring on astra g coupe? do i need some kind of clamp for the spring?

Yes u will need a clamp
JAck ur car up
Wheel off
Arch liner off
Then unbolt the lower bolt behind the hub
Think 4 or 6 bolt on top
That it off

Isn't that how you'd do it on a Vectra? The Astra is a lot easier.

Jack the car up and put on axel stands, taking both wheels off
Put a jack under the rear axel and jack it up so the jack is supporting the beam
Undo the bottom bolt on the rear shock both sides (16mm socket)
Release the jack from rear axel, then pull out the springs with top bump stops
Transfer the bump stops to the new spring and put back on the car
Jack the axel back up and put the bolt back on both shocks
Release the jack and replace the wheels

Matt u didnt mention using a clamp for spring..am i right in saying i wont need it then?

No need for clamps for the rears on astras. Very easy and quick job.

As above, you don't need clamps for the rear springs, only the front ones.

use to do the same on novas

jack up the rear so the wheels not touching the ground, undo the top mount bolt for shock and it will drop another few cm, enough room to swop over springs, lower car back down and then nip up the top mounts for the shocks

Is there any difference between the 1.8 coupe rear spring and 2.2 coupe rear spring? Is the 2.2 one slightly lower?

when changing the springs..can change jus the broken one..or do i have to do both? As im skint iv gt one n thought in a few weeks time il av abit more money i can put new one on the otherside aswel

Only ever do suspension in pairs. Whatever you do to one side do to the other.
