I am wondering if anyone can help me. I purchased 2 months ago, a really clean low mileage Vectra B sri on a Y reg. 4 weeks later, the dam thing started blowing from the exhaust and losing power. 24 hours or so later we took the car to a garage to have it patched up (the flexi has split) but they said that it had already been welded. Was not possible to do it again. Said we needed a new Cat at over £200 english notes, just for the parts...
On trying to drive the car away from the garage, the dash lit up with the traction control light, eml light and another light. Then it cut out. Had to be jumped after some hesitation., but lights went out. Managed to get it home, but then tried to start it and it would not fire up. 24 hours or so later, tried starting it and it went, but after 10 mins broke down again in the same way. The revs also went up and down at the same time...It drives beautifully, so does not make any sense. Changed battery and egr valve, but to no availe. Now it is sitting on the drive just staring at me. Am fed up. It has also been burning some oil and there is a lot of carbon deposits coming from the exhaust..
Can anyone help with a diagnosis. Thought maybe it is a faulty ecu or possibly cos the cat is gone/going?? We dont have much money as saving for a house, so need a relatively cheap solution, if there is one.
