8GB or 16GB RAM?

New laptop is capable of running 16GB of RAM, and currently has 4GB installed in a single slot.

I can upgrade to 8GB by purchasing a single extra 4GB stick, which will cost me £15 from Crucial. However, to update to 16GB, will be closer to £70 for the 2 x 8GB sticks.

Is it really worth running 16GB RAM for the extra cost?

Wait for the price to come down on the 16gb. Will probably be the same price as the 8 within a year.

only time u need more than 8gb is when u have hyperv running in the background

Nope, will just be used for general stuff, as well as my mixing software.

Just ordered an extra 4GB from Crucial. £14.99! I remember putting an extra 512MB in my first ever laptop, and it costing over £60.

I don't know what to do about the SSD drive I bought now. It's the 128GB one from Crucial, but the 500GB drive in my new laptop has an 32GB SSD which it's using for commonly accessed files, and it's only taking about 15 seconds to boot from cold to login screen.

I might buy one of those kits from Crucial and clone to HDD on Amy's older 13" Macbook, and put it in that for her.

i went from 8 to 16 and haven't notice a real difference beside multi-tasking (can run photoshop while playing WoW and having 4-5 other softwares running in background such as a audio/video converter) and boot time (4-5 sec slower)

Since upgrading to 8GB, I've not got any where near to using all of it. My laptop sits at about 2.5gb usage most of the time.

I remember the days memory was sold in batches of 256KB, and 1Mb used to cost hundreds!!! But even 256Kb made a difference lol

I don't remember that far back, but I remember swaping in £400 radio controlled car for a 64mb RAM upgrade from 32mb on our first PC
