How long should we expect the coilpack for the z22se engine to work without failure.
I mean how many miles..
I hade my replaced at 60.000km and now I think it fails again.

How much has your car run before the coil pack failed.

There have been a few threads on here for issues with Coil Packs, but not a lot.

The car is now at 131.000KM.. so I think it's to early, it fails again.
Anyway, I'm pretty sure it's time to change the coilpack.. some lack of power, sometimes engine stalls at idle, a few times a smell of bad eggs .-)
TB cleaned, cat.. is ok, timingchain is ok, CTS pretty new, egr cheater, ecu reset..

I have what I think is the Australian equivalent which is an Astra SRI which has the Z22SE engine.

Mine is on it's 4th coil pack at 132,000km and can't believe how coil packs have let me down. I am really happy with the car otherwise.

Anyone ever found what makes these cars go through so many coil packs?

Originally I thought it was bad design placing the coil pack in the cam tunnel which would just boil the coil so I left the engine cover off to experiment, 3 weeks later another coil pack!

I also thought the code P0340 (cam sensor) was caused by the coil pack as this Z22SE does not have a cam sensor, but after fitting another GM coil pack the code reappeared.

Any contributing replies are greatly appreciated.

4 coilpacks at 132.000km is to bad, maybe you have been unlucky .-)
Did you change the sparkplugs every time, a new coilpack was put on..?

I changed my coilpack and sparkplugs a week ago, and the car is now runing well again.

Maybe GM's coilpacks are just bad, as I know other Opel cars which have similar problems.

they break down based on temperature resistance imo

for example on ford ka duratec they are located next to exhaust manifold and regularly break down

as of yet on a z22se i have not had one produce a fault [4 years]

I haven't replaced the plugs each time but have replaced them 3 times so far and monitored them. I have used the genuine 3 earth electrode type which have dropped in price dramatically since first release.

I have had 2 GM coil packs, 1 aftermarket from the UK and one aftermarket from here in Australia.

Yes I am sure heat kills them, there is no way they can run cool where they are mounted, it's not even summer here yet and I am killing them. Was hoping someone had stumbled across another cause maybe.

Well the new coil pack is holding up fine for now. Put some new genuine spark plugs in and it fixed the check engine light, AND of all bloody things cleared the code P0340.
Whoever set these things up needs some new coil packs in their own head, how ridiculous!

Blew both brake light globes last week, alternater approx 3 months ago.
