Just thought i'd let you know of an event i'm going on next year with an old forum member Toby (Glider).
This is our 2nd year trying to get onto this event and we finally managed to secure a spot. Its limited to under 150 teams and there were over 1000 applications for next years rally.
The event is called the Shitbox Rally (http://www.shitboxrally.com.au/index.php). Its a fundraising event in which you do a nice drive across the country in a car worth under $1000 including registration (which accounts for usually $500+)
Our car of choice is a 94 Daewoo 1.5. think of it as a cheaper much shittier version of the astra mk2.
Being part of the Opel forum here in Australia its going to be rebadged as an Opel Kadett Mk2 gsi. 😃
heres a picture of the car i took about a year ago. it hasn't been moved in about 2 years and the grass is a bit longer around it now.

Due to our location we have to travel half the country just to get to the start point.
Our journey will take us through the middle of Australia on some roads which not all that long ago were 4x4 access only.
The total distance we will be travelling from home to the end point is about 6300km. To give you a rough idea of that distance. Its like traveling from London via road to the boarder of Kazakhstan and China. Remember this is in a shitbox of a car, not a car that was meant to go on such a long drive across places that will most likely kill it.

The round trip should take us around 2 weeks (6 hour flight back) with half of that time spent driving to the start point.
Honestly its got to be one of the best ways we can see the country and do it for a great cause.
If you'd like to donate you can with paypal via: http://fundraise.shitboxrally.com.au/team_hopeless
It would be greatly appreciated.
I'll post up progress in here as time goes on and will be sure to post pics from the event itself as well.
