air blowing out oil cap when opened

Hi All,

I have just replaced my timing/balancing chain. after i finshed it i started her up and she is idling smoothly and she is quiet. However the is a massive amount of air coming out the the oil cap hole when opened.

Is this normal? if not, what do i need to do inorder to rectify it?

she is driving well aswel, much better than before.

Have you checked that the breather hoses from the cam cover are correctly reconnected and / or not blocked ? My old engine was doing a similar thing but on that engine, the 'air' that was coming out was cloudy ( ie exhaust gas ) which was a lot of blow-past from knackered rings combined with buggered exhaust valves on number 4 cylinder !

if its huffing out like a choo choo train (i.e it is pulsing with smoke) it would most likely be blowback past the piston rings, it would also smell like exhaust gas as markoneswift has said , if it were a breather i believe it would be excessive pressure and fairly constant.
