Evening all, I'm looking for some advice. I've got a 2002 Vectra B with 70,000 miles on it.
I've already used this site to sort out a dodgy EGR valve (thanks Matt for the blanking plate and cheater) but now I'm getting paranoid about my chain.
Looking through the history it looks like the chain was replaced at 49,000 miles. I've had the car since 64,000 miles and have completed two oil changes (at 64k and 69k). I've no idea what type of chain/tensioner was used.
It might have always done it but I've noticed lately that there is a slight 'knocking' noise when starting the car from cool (note not completely cold). If its been stood for about 30 mins it almost sounds like its taking 2-3 seconds to build oil pressure properly. It never rattles or makes any other noise on first start in the morning...
Does this sound like the chain/tensioner? Also I've noticed it isn't the smoothest sounding 4 cylinder I've ever owned. It idles and runs spot on but just sounds a bit more 'harsh' than other 4 cylinders. My GF used to own a 1.0 Corsa with a dodgy chain and that was unmistakeable- is it a similar noise on the Z22SE because this engine sounds nothing like it?
Is there anyone in or around Sheffield that could let me listen to their Z22SE just to compare. Mine might sound completely normal but I don't have anything to compare it with.
Thanks for any advice given and sorry for the essay of a first post.
Dan
