Another dog gone....

Well this time it's my old girl, she is about 9 years old now, she (Zara) started to be in pain last night so my girlfriend nipped her to the vets. I got a text from my girlfriend before to say it's not good 🙁 . Zara started to hobble on her front leg, after a few weeks she got a big lump growing on her leg. It looks like bone cancer. She now drags her leg and it's giving her pain. Infact I have just found out she is gone for sure 🙁. Gutted. R.I.P Zara

When i was younger,one of our Labrodores had to be put down due to bone cancer, poor thing, he was about 12 iirc.

Thats true Matt, at least I know she is at peace and pain free. She was old, I knew she did not have long left in her.

Is 9 considered old for those types of dog? We've only ever really has collies, one lived to 16 and the last was 18!

I think these Rotties normally go at 10 years old. I have had two dogs that went at nearly 10 years old.

never understood why larger breeds dont live as long, i know there are inherent issues with pedigrees which is one of the reasons i have normally gone for a mongrel, the one to the left of my sig pic is a german shepherd / collie cross who is around 20, still walking and active albeit a little slower and more elderly, the one on the right is again unknown pedigree as she was also a rescue dog but we suspect Malamute and probably wont live as long 🙁 currently only 2.
