which fluid to use

Haven’t found it in the manual which gear boxes were used on the z22se? im thinking of renewing the fluid is it easy to do? Worth while etc and what type of fluid should be used.

Gearbox fitted to the Astra is the F23

I use this in the M32 fitted to my VXR, but it meets the specs of all the Vauxhall gearboxes

thanks for the reply Matt iv never changed the oil in a gear box before. is it just a case of removing the sump letting it drain and then refill?
is the refill the large torx on the top of the box? anything i need to beaware off?🙂 how do you know when its full as well.

There is a field remedy to over fill the F23 box to ensure smooth changes.

Draining is just a case of removing the drain plug, fill is on the top. I'll try and find the thread with the information on the field remedy.

Not sure on the F23 though if there is a fill level hole like there is on the M32?

i had a look today only from above the only thing i found was the torx on the top, which i think must be the filler.
havent had a chance to look under it as as soon as i went out it started to rain. sods law.

i was half way throught typing as i sent it showed me new alert. ill have a look when its dry. ill see if i can find that thread as well Matt 😉

Thanks Matt 🙂 so do i refill till its level with the level bolt and then do that up and add some more? how much roughly how much exta from that point?

again im a tit lol.the post you sent the link for says right at the top to refill to 2.35liters.
so now i need to get myself a long reach allen key, gearbox fluid SAE 75W-80 synthetic and power steering fluid, so when i change the oil and the other filters etc i can do it all in 1 hit.

out of intreast whats the worst that would happen if the gearbox was over filled?

finally got round to the gearbox oil and power steering fluid today. has made a hell of a diffrence still a bit stiff in 1st to 2nd and back tho.

i only filled it with 1.75 ltrs as there are no makings on the plugs and thats about what come out of it give or take. would it be worth overfilling or adding something to it? to reduce the stiffness between 1st and 2nd?

Bit late but used to have same trouble using 75/85w? that i didnt have with factory supplied oil.

I've been running 3L in my f23 for a while now. I ran with 2.25L for a track day and had a fair bit of whine from the gearbox around corners so since been topped up and gearbox catch can added with no issues.
