EGR Valve problems

Hi all
Having fault code P0404 EGR Valve and engine warning light on my 2003 Z22SE coupe. Engine not idling very well at all. Just fitted blanking plate and EGR cheater as bought from the site, Engine light has come back on after short drive again with P0404 code. Any ideas, or am I going to have to get a tech2 engineer to remove EGR valve from the ECU or buy another EGR? Car is going up for sale so don't want to spend much on it.

Could possibly be a fault cheater. I can post you another one out to try?

It would be great if you can, failing that, can Vauxhall disable the EGR system all together?

I'm not sure on the Z22SE. I know they can on the 1.6 as the did it on mine.

Can you PM me your order number, and I'll get a new cheater out ASAP?

you get p404 from not pluggin it in the right way also

One of the solder joints was not to good, bit of extra solder and it now works. cheers Dave

Hi guys, first time poster but have found this site really useful in the last few months since I got my '05 Vectra C Sri Auto (it was cheap and the tiptronic 'box is actually quite fun). However going from an old Jap car that never had an issue, it's been interesting to own a VX with millions of wee foibles...

I'm going to jump onto the thread as it seems like the OP's issue was solved but it is a EGR valve issue.

Since purchase, I have had both chains replaced as a precaution and also got into it one morning to find the rear footwell filled with water - quick fix learned from vectra c website! However, I have intermittently had the EGR (P0404) code thrown up - which I clear myself with my codereader. After reading on here, I decided to whip it off and have a look at cleaning it up and maybe fitting a blanking plate and EGR cheater.

However, when I got under the bonnet today, I was a bit confused... Where I was sure the EGR valve was, there was something that looked nothing like the EGR valve pictures I've seen posted on here and other sites. Is this just a different model, is this something altogether different, does my car not even have a z22se?

Here are the pics I took of what I saw, I'd appreciate anyone's input on clearing this up!

Is your car a 2.2 Direct (2 exhaust pipes)?

2.2 Direct is a Z22YH, and not the Z22SE.

Totally! Rushy explaining on another forum (Vec C, I think) that the YH EGR valve is cooled with coolant from the block, which makes sense why it is such an odd shape! Will still visit here though as there is a lot of helpful stuff regardless of the slight differences. Ta mate.
