Need Help asap please !!!

Driving down motorway, electrical warnings come on and rev and speedo counter, brakes and power sterring went, pulled over then it died. wouldnt turn over, managed to bump it, but all the same problems were still there. batt light was not on !!
Car lasted 20 mins then died again and would not bump or jump.got towed bak home. tried reseting the batt terminals. still dont turn over. all the warnings come on on stage 2. but didnt have enuff power to put windows up. i hope it dont rain lol,on stage 2 getting a loud fast clicking noise from near the inlet manifold. not sure exaclty.
if any 1 seen or heard this before id love to no what im up against. cheers carl

Yeah your alternator has died!!! Happened to me a few times 🙁 Battery has drained because its not getting any charge

ok how much does it cost to get a new 1 fitted ?

not that difficult to do yourself i did mine a couple of years back i think there is one bolt which is a bit of a pain to get to from memory but couple of hours is all it should take.

ok just put a fresh charged batt on, fired up ! has any 1 got any pics of how to change a alternator ?

first thing check that your alternator belt is still on - if this is the problem its much easier to fix, just get a new belt 🙂

Otherwise:
It's just a nuts and bolts job really
4 big bolts (13mm head) at the front left of your engine, 2 on top, 2 below - big round thing with a belt attached
u got to remove the belt first - do this by using a 3/8" SD ratchet and lifting the tensioner up
U will need to unscrew the battery connection and unplug the alternator light connection also

don't forget to undo the negative terminal of your batt before starting or there will be sparks

Ok cheers rik. Was just thinking my alternator light did not come on, is it worth me changing my battery first as that could be knackered before i spend out over 100 for a alt. cheers

With the car running stick an electrical multimeter on the battery terminals. If the alternator is working you should get 14v +/- 1v. If it is not working you will get a reading of less than 12v.

cant get to bottom right bolt cause A/C pipe in the way and dont no how to remove it
Its taken me 3 hours to get that far lol. any ideas how to get to that bolt.
i got a spanner on it but had no room to move it

Oh yeah... that bolt... I removed mine to get my inlet manifold off.

If there is gas in the system it must be degased first!

Its an e10 bolt, I used a e10 socket and a short wobbly extension, then another wobbly extension, just about did it, a uj might be better but I didn't have one.

Also once that bolt is undone, leave it in the pipe as its a pain to try and get it back in.

ah yes i think this must be the bolt iwas referring to as being a "pain", its been a few years since i did the job but vaguely remember having to knock up a custom tool for the job out of old sockets or something as at the time i did not have ratchet spanners which i suspect would be the best solution. sorry i cant be more precise its been so long since i did it.

just to confirm i did not need to remove the air con pipe but it is a squeeze , i think you may need to gently lever it out the way a few mm togain access

yes you can bend the metal pipe a little bit upwards/downwards then you can get a socket onto it. I used a stubby extension bar which measures no more than 1 1/2 inch long then attached my ratchet to undo it.

ok il give it a gob but i cant get my hand down there, im debating on taking the rad out so i got more acess from the front, cause it was giving me a nervous break down, i done so many other alternators and this is by far the worse 1. think when its done im gna sell it, these engines are more trouble than there worth

its a pain i know. ive found it quicker just to take the bumper off.
