Just thought i would join up and say hello, a friend of mine recommended the forum to me as he has a 2.2 Vectra.

Me... im a Rover man, i did my apprenticeship with MgRover 11 years ago, as such i have bit of a following for them, i am a Moderater on Rovertech.net and have had a 414,416,45,75, and 3 600 turbos (of which i still have two lol).

I have had a couple of Mk3 astras... a 1.4 8v merit as my second car... (my god that was slow) and a 1.6 16v arctic i got for £100.00 as a cambelt snapper.

Anyway on to the Z22se, well the 45 got hit in the rear door a couple of months back, got a payout and we decided that we would get a Zafira for the Mrs, very practical car for the family, and i wanted a Z22 specificly as it has both the power and weight to tug the caravan a few times a year (rather my 620ti did not have to !).

So last week i bought one.... i havent got it yet, it will be with me this week when the transporter (mystery Bob) goes to get it.

Faults ?

Broken check strap in one door ( i have seen the plates to fix this ).

And the engine.. it rattles/knocks, possable bottem end knock, but im rather hoping its timing chains !

Anyway i will find out more when i get it !

May need to pick some brains on the technical side, torque settings etc, but looking at some of the pics on here it looks pretty straight forward !

Anway i will post up a thread when i get stuck in !

One of my mates from school is really into his rovers/mgs. Got one of the V6 ZS I think and also a turbo'd ZR

Not sure i recognise that one straight off... i have seen one or two with orange rocker covers though ! good old T series turbo ! Its a good unit, i have one in each of my 600s and a spare bottom end in the garage ! stock power is 197bhp, so go well in a 25/Zr ! though they can be frowned upon due to ripping apart a good GSi/coupe/620/420 or 820 turbo lol.

Its always nice to hear that Matt, you do get some... er, rather unfriendly places, how ever, i am of the oppinion that we are all here for a reason ! we are all petrol heads of some sort 😉

A quick update is that mystery Bob has just been on the phone saying there is a fair chance he will pick up the Zafira for me tomorrow ! so it may turn up at my house tomorrow afternoon on a trailer :cool:

Incidently... i see you drive a Astra VXR... so here s one i know of !

I work with this guy Dale (both BMW techs). His Vxr is mint, he also has an ultra powerfull corsa.

Bloody should do after the money thats gone in to it lol, i believe im right in saying at last count it was 260bhp, i know its had a custom inlet manifold, larger turbo and management since then, so god knows what its produceing now, i have not been in it, but i have seen videos of it seeing off 400bhp evos lol.

Still, not quite the refinement of a Rover !! :rolf:

Hmm... im trying to work out the most economical repair method !

Basicly its worn through the big end bearing on no 3 and has scored the hell out of the crank, the rest of the bearings are picking up badly too... this was ready to go bang !

Basicly, its second hand engine... or second hand crankshaft and new bearings.. I will get a pic for your ammusement in a sec !

(If anyone here has these parts cheap enough then please let me know ASAP !!!)

I can only assume this engine has never been looked after, or the fluid levels kept an eye on... one thing i do is lift the bonnet on my own cars every couple of weeks (you have to keep an eye on the water level on a K series) :rolf:
It takes 2 miutes for crying out load... is there anything else thats common that could cause this on the Z22 ?

hello and welcome! your not the only foriegner here as matt says! im in a FTO after my second vaux engine failiure (2nd one, Z20NET being entirely my fault trying to achieve astronomic levels of torque! but damn it was fun!) drakey had a kia, robbo22se has a R32, and there are a few other turncoats too!
