Vectra 2.2 Direct - Loss of power on acceleration

Hoping someone can shed some light..

My Vecta 2.2 starts 1st time and idles fine (apart from a slight ticking from the timing chain area), however when accelerate it sort of bubbles and misfires. I'm obviously getting lack of fuel pressure?? Plus on heavy load I get the EML and it goes into limp mode 🙁

Does anyone know what this could be? Could my timing chain have slipped a tooth or 3? its the fuel pump faulty, or is the fuel pressure regualtor at fault? or maybe something else???

Classic HP pump mate. I assume your pump is a Siemens, you will need the new type Continental pump, its a 15 min job to fit but not cheap at £250-£300. Try Autovaux for a price, you may have to email them though. Also has your car had the Fuel reg recall done, if not get that done first to make sure its not that. With the pump, the car will get up to about 3000 rpm then go into limp, or if you put your foot right down.

not saying it is as i have never had a .22 with a high pressure pump but have had vxhalls with shagged afm

All the Siemens HP pumps fail mate, and when they go it does exactly as described, will run perfect until the required amount of fuel is needed. Even Watchdog couldn't get VX to admit the fault.

Its got the Continental type pump and Vauxhall say that my car was never recalled (the pump and regulator look like they have been replaced as look much "newer" that the rest of the engine see pics), I'm getting the timing and balance chains sorted at the weekend. (Its starting to make horibble noises) Do you think that it could have slips a tooth or 2, and replacing the chains may sort it out? Im reluctant to spend _£400 on a new pump and/or regulator if I dont need too!

All the Vectra B's were never fitted with the small type oil feed to the timing chain according to Vauxhall!! Its bollocks! They all left the factory with the small feed!

Its a new pump as the original will have been the Siemens. If they say its never been recalled for the reg, then push them for that doing, if not at your currant dealer then another. The main chain tensioner on the direct is also a common failure point, Vx now fit the tensioner from the Z20NET (Vec C/Saab 2.0T) and all new kits come with this as standard.

Thanks Rushy, Im getting the chains sorted out next weekend. (Bought from the shop With Z20NET tensioner 🙂 ) Do you think my lack of power is related to the timing chain slipping a tooth?

It could be mate, but there's far more knowledgeable guys than me on here when it comes to the chain. I mentioned the fuel because the way you describe it including the EML and limp is bang on what happens to 2.2 directs when the pump goes, but as you've pointed out you already have the new type pump. From what i'm aware these pumps dont die, but the regs do still fail.

The fuel problem isn't an engine breaker but the chain is though so getting the new chain fitted is always going to be a wise move and hopefully that sorts your problem.

RESOLVED: Hi all just a note to share with other members what this was. It turned out to be the pump even though I had a Continental pump they do go and needed to be replaced, I also replaced the Fuel Regulator and Fuel pressor sensor (Did these 1st both no joy) soon as the new fuel pump went on, the difference was amazing. Special thanks to Daz and the boys and all those who posted.

Glad you got it sorted m8, must admit yours is the first conti pump if read thats failed.
