Polished the cam cover!

More then happy with the results, used my 3 stage polishing kit with 4" mops... Whats best to protect the finish once fitted, heard they may dull over time...

that look excellent mate ,when you say 3 stage polishing kit can you elaborate on that ,4" mops were they used on a dremel or a drill.ive sort of polished mine but no where as good as that

Yeah stage 1 is sisal mop and grey cutting compound bar, then a close stitch mop with green, final is a loose G mop with fine blue compound... All on a drill

You can buy a starter kit for bout a tenner off eBay, search metal polishing kit, job done 🙂

By the way in not sure if I went over board with the sanding as went right up to 1200 wet and dry, but they do say the prep is most important...

But, I slipped a couple of times and caught the drill on the cover so had to spot sand, but even from 600 then straight back to stage one sorted it so probably could have saved a bit of time...

is it best to use a variable speed drill,as i only have a drill that has one speed or will that be ok

One I used only has one speed, but these work off the heat too from polishing so probably better...

BTW... Once I get a new gasket for the head do I need any sealant in the corners, bends and weak spots or just bolt on? What sealants best... Cheers.

Cheers guys... Here are the stages if anyone's interested...

1200 grit

Stage 1: sisal mop

Stage 2: close stitch mop

Stage 3: close G mop, and job done...

Off hand, Megs Metal polish will help protect and also Bilt Hamber's sealant can be used on paint, plastic and metal. That looks the dogs Lee, you might need to turn down your under bonnet lights or your going to blind someone 😉

Cheers, I'll have a look into those and the jetseal.

Just waiting for a couple of rubber washers from Jwalker and I'll get it fitted... I think after I've got the TB intake made up I'll def leave it alone under there, for a while anyway 🙂

Apiro do a SS intake pipe with one take off for the cam breather that should look good.

MIJ exhausts do a 70mm pipe with cam port for £13, and I'll just order some Chinese silicone bends as I'm in no rush 🙂

That should do it no problem...

Need to redo mine again now tho, wanted to fit it tonight and tried to clean the inside, no engine degreaser so used Mr Muscle, some dripped on the outside and ruined the finish 🙁
