Open Source ECU mapping software?

Hi,

When I went to Northampton Motorsport I remember the guy there said something about a (proprietary) ECU that had some very good (and open source) ECU mapping software. Does anyone know what he might be referring to? I have a vague feeling the company name might have begun with 'O', but not sure 🙂

The 2.4L project is still ongoing (the car is running and legal, just not with the full amount of power, so I'm driving it as-is for now). I'm planning on getting rid of the Webcon ECU, as I'm fed up not being able to tweak the map myself.

Have you tried with the PC interface and SW for your Alpha ECU (ask Webcon) and it doesn't give you good enough mapping capabilites or the main limitation is that it doesn't allow extra functionallity you need (VVT controller etc)?

Thanks Vocky! Is the OMEX control software open source? I guess it is free, but I couldn't find a page where I could get at the code for it.

The VVT wouldn't be a huge limitation as I have a second ECU that runs as well as the Webcon and handles it, but the issue for me is that I don't believe Webcon will release the PC interface and software, apart from to authorized dealers.

I could be wrong here though... vocky?

You're wrong. I bought it recently, the whole ITB package + the interface option (interface for PC and software). I kindly asked for possibility and my argument was that I live in a country where nearest dealer is 2 countries away, 600 miles trip one way, so I can't afford to take a huge trip for every modification I would do.
Haven't used it yet, as I still have to do all the pleasant task of installation itself.

That is very interesting indeed. Did they charge you extra for the software? Do you need an interface box, or is it a standard RS232 connection?

It seems that the Alpha 4 supports changing its own fuel mappings with a wideband input, so if I could enable that, it would save me a huge amount of pain.

It still leaves me with non-sequential fuel injection, but I can live with that if I can get it producing decent power for this summer!

Yes, they charged extra for the "interface+SW" and was not so cheap either. Interface looks like RS-232 (serial) indeed. But then, not sure if a small "embedded-like" circuit is present among the wires, need to have another look to tell you more exactly.
