Tapping noise

Has anyone heard a tapping noise coming through from around the inner wing oo the drivers side??? Had it for ages now and cant trace it. It started shortly after i put my pipercross induction kit on, its a strange one cos there's nothing loose or moving to cause it. Its hard to miss in the car but cant hear it in the engine bay. Anyone got any ideas???

does the tapping speed, change with the revs? (i.e. does it get faster or disapear)
I have a similar thing and I am struggling to trace it too...
It seems most tapping noises orignate from the dreaded chain or the exhaust manifold...

No it stays the same,taking the induction kit this weekend to see if that helps any.

notsure.gif Hmm if it stays the same that would suggest it is not a moving part on the engine or drivetrain I guess (as surely that would speed up with engine speed).
Ticking relay perhaps or blowing manifold?

Anybody else have an idea. Let us know if thaking the induction kit off makes any difference...

mine ticks with revs for like 30 seconds on start ... comes from the mainifold area rather than the chain area .. sorry to hi jack thread but how easy is it to get the mainifold bolts tightend up ?

bolts on the top of the manifold are easy to get to, undo the heatshield and there they are, ones underneath are a bit more fiddly! what..

No probs. it's doing my head in to say the least. it doesnt speed up with revs, and its not there all the time. notsure.gif It's most noticeable after a bit hard use rallygif

i had the same noise i think

shortly after fitting a k&n, i could hear a tapping noise coming the inner of the right hand wing, the garage reckon its the fuel bleed air filter in the r/h wing full and its the air venting from it, this could just be due to a faulty fuel vent solinoid on the front of the engine which vents the fuel line when there is no accellerator input, because when accelerating it does not need to vent.

i just ignored it though and its now cleared its self

I like that explanation, mine does seem to go away under revs.
Actually it seems to have gone away altoghter at the moment. what..

Is that the black solonoid thats normally attached to the air box??? I had mine cable tied up on a bracket after i put the pipercross on, snipped the cable tie the other day and so far so good
