opinions of the 2.2

Hi guys,

just wondering what peoples opinions are of the 2.2 engine. I have owned several vauxhalls myself varying in engine size from a 1.3 upto the 2.2. I have owned my 2.2 vectra for a year and half now and i love driving it, it still puts a smile on my face.

the 2.2 seems like a good reliable engine to me apart from the chain problem, and getting a few more horses from a standard 2.2 is easily and fairly cheaply achievable with a few basic mods.

So what do you lot think?[/i]

I love it, ive jumped from a 1.2 corsa to a 2.2 coupe! Not to keen on the gearbox though, it could do with a closer ratio imo.

yeah i'm not too keen on the box, mine is quite notchy from 1st to 2nd when cold but after a few minutes its fine what..

yea my box is quite notchy from 1st to 2nd but as soon as she is warm its fine 😃

i went from a ibiza cupra sport to my astra and i love the astra

there is an upside to the gear box.... reverse is a breeze to select due to the fully syncro gear box! Mine will go in while rolling forward.

This is my first 2.2 and I think it's a great car 😃. I owned the 2.0 Sri before this and what a difference the z22se is 🙂. I am very happy with my car, just love it 😃. And of course like most people I would like a few extra bhp out of it :wink:

Well being a old codger the 2.2 is powerfull enough for me -- what i like is the ease of driving with the torque ot produces -- it will pull away in higher gears at low speeds which makes for relaxed driving -- but at the other end of the scale you can make it howl along with the exhaust making a loverly noise.

well 2.2 is ok but my bros 1.3 ren 5 gt turbo keeps up with me all the way and its quite embarrassing as his is a 89 and mine is a 01damn if the turbo or super charger was more available and cheaper.( it should come as an option from vaux.) it would be amazing. but apart from the chain and alternator it has been extremely relliable. (fingers crossed). baby..

there is a supercharger available for the 2.2 from courtney's but it aint cheap at around 5k
