iv just been on another forum(sorry just goggling) and found
http://www.migweb.co.uk/forums/other-mechanical-electrical/240360-2-2-z22se-timing-chain-fault.html saying that if the engine number falls before 11065400 it hasnt got a modification but mine falls at 11163*** are they referring to the older 2.2 engines or am totally off subject completely.

sorry but i cant see how WE the customers should be paying all this money out when vauxhall should have recalled it. they recalled for faulty handbrakes last year on my car that at that point was about 7 years old?

i dont get it

yeh that would be great,do you think its worth contacting bristol street motors vauxhall chesterfield to get a price?

see if they would do a deal on the labour or what ever as its not just my car its all 2.2s.?

iv just found a thread by benny a few years ago though about doing timing chains on his driveway on saturdays for £220 all in.

i think iv sent him a message(maybe) i hope hes still doing it

@[deleted] is a good bet if you can get hold of him. Think he's charging more than that now though, as the price of the kit along has gone up a fair whack over the last couple of years.

I had @[deleted] change the timing belt and service my Vectra C CDTI a couple of years ago. Definitely worth the trip down to see him.

i know what your saying he sounds like hes the man but its 3 hour driving and 3 to 4 hours waiting about for it to be done.

But well worth the wait, admin from another forum drove down from scotland to bennys a while back and he said it was worth every little penny.

i think i could do it myself i have a nvq level 1 in mechanics(but anyone can get one of those if u can spell your own name)

as iv done a full engine and gearbox rebuild on a quad bike engine(which had a cam chain)250cc twin and its still running.

and iv done cam belts on 1.2 clios(8 valve)a few times, i could do 1 of them with 1 hand tied behind my back

but i have not tried a twin cam or timing chains on a car.

i have watched a cam belt being done on a evo 8 but that was a few years back when i was a lad at 17 now 25(i used to work for a rally team)

if any body has a step by step guide or photos,i may give it a go myself.

it looks very complecated on the bottom end with the balance chain set up aswell.

should i replace anything else wile im there?

like when doing a cam belt normally you change the water pump.

and the photos on there show you the engine out so its easy to get to is it still easy enough to get to in the car?

by the looks of things i should be replacing the balance chain kit also with a water pump aswell.

so im looking at atleast £120 timing chain kit,££62 water pump,£80 balance chain kit. thats alot without labour aswell.

it's not really a bad job once you get into it

no need to change the water pump, just make sure you use a gen kit as the others tend to cause a lot of problems

Isnt it worth doing while im there? But would you do the balance chain kit then?

they only recalled problematic engines with a rattle

they offered a free engine supply and fitted by dealers around 2001/2 - after manufacturer warranty why should they fork out even more

there is many variables as to why chains snap including owners lack of maintenance - how does vxhall / dealer differentiate between that

Always do the balance chain whilst doing the timing chain but ive never heard of a water pump failing on this engine. Might be because oil lubricates the pump bearing.....
