my engine rebuild..

looking forward to rebuild my engine, my engine is bad, cos one of the piston is blown.. now am looking forward to do this job my self.
this is my 1st time and i just need bits and tips and also can someone tell me if i can carry out this job my self.. the cylinder head of this engine is working fine and just the bottom end that need replacement. i had a quote of 200 for a complete bottom end with crankshaft, piston and in good working order they say and also the guy said engine has only covered 55k..
so guyz what should i do? have got every time to my self and i really want to do this job my self.... just want to know what to look at and were might be the hardest part.. many thanks

Go for it its always good having a go yourself. Its a bit of a task tho so be prepared to spend some time measuring bearing play in the bottom end altho if youve had a piston go i doubt your bottom end will be any good. It might be salvageable but if your not sure run it into a engine specialist to get it checked out. If your going down the route of getting another bottom end again make sure it is worthy of going back into your pride and joy. I bought a second hand x16xel head not long ago was told it came of a 60k car... well it was a sh*t state and was only slightly better then the one that come off not to say all breakers are selling you junk but just bear in mind that for all the work youl be doing you want to make sure its tip top and if your ever not sure go and ask:thumbup:
