Going to get my bike back out again this weekend ready to start cycling to work again.

It's not been used since November, so anything I should look at while giving it a once over?

Depending on hows it has been kept, only thing may be stretched cables due to the gear they have been left in and slight corrosion on items rear casette or chain.

Was left on the middle front cog and the middle cog on the rear set.

It's been kept in the shed since I stopped riding it. Had it out, and looks OK visually, will just the brakes a look at, and check the gears are indexed properly.

Cables will be fine in terms of stretching, no need to worry there.

Pump up the tyres and take it out a spin. The cables may have corroded inside the sheaths so you might find the gears playing up. Just look out for the obvious corrosion, if the drivetrain has just surface rust, id put plenty of oil on and ride it - after a short while id then de-grease the drivetrain and it should have cleaned itself up by then.

tis the time to do it, the weather has been great went out for my first ride since i fucked me shoulder up snow boarding, nothing too extreme just a few raggedy trails,
was shit high in mud by the time i got back, the mrs was appaled:rolf:
shoulder felt good so back to the big trials this weekend🙂.
gotta service me brakes disks are wailing a bit lol

Tyres and brakes sorted today. Put my summer Continental slicks back on, and made sure the discs were central in the calliper and not rubbing.

Just need to get out on it now

where do you get your pads and stuff from matt? (i got twin pot disks on mine) i want some new ones just wondered wether you knew a cheap and reputable supplier?

trust me if your out of the habit it can be bloody hard work,
obviously you have a road bike which means you dont have to bust your sphincter/walk up hills!
i nearly threw up after a few downhill runs then just had a mild trundle round the lanes with the mrs and her horse but ive been knackered ever since!

I've not had to replace anything on the bike yet Si, only done _1000km on it last year, and there is still plenty of meat on the discs/pads.

Everything I have bought for it has been from ChainReactionCycles or Wiggle

A few people at work get all their stuff from Planet X, but then they have spent a few grand in the last 12 months on Carbon Fibre bikes

ill have a browse and see what they have, just trying to save a few pennys rather than go straight to hope for them

are proper disks too sharp for that sort of bike?

chain reaction cycles have exactly what im after cheers! 15-20 squids a pair. the others stock mainly traditional styles of breaks

too much wind resistance and extra weight!

CRC are as cheap as anywhere - with the added bonus for me that they are literlly 2 mins down the road in Doagh

I use the CRC nukeproof pads - good job. just fitted new fronts so im waiting for them to bed in properly.

I don't know mate, I don't know why they don't use disk brakes on those sort of bikes.

mine was sold on the basis that my mate found it too heavy and it kept trying to kill him!
im 13 stone and have no such problems
