I am only new here but I have already received a good heads up by reading other posts about the troublesome SRi 2.2 engine, I had a cam chain slip, pretty common but before I go broke with my local mechanic i need to ask a question? p.s. I am in Australia.
I had the chain slip requiring my top end be repaired, I bought a Cam Chain Kit and had it fitted at the same time so I could drive again without that problem cropping up again. After picking it up, starting and driving a short distance ,I could hear what I thought to be a very noisy tappet, I went back to the repair shop who could also hear the noise and they said the hydraulic lifters were the culprit.
I then had a full set of new lifters fitted. After picking it up and starting the engine I could hear the Tappping noise from the top end sounding like a noisy tappet again, now all the work was done by a local garage and they are now pointing the finger at the camshaft?
Has anyone here had a problem of this nature that could give me a fighting chance with the workshop, they seem to be clutching at straws now and with my money, any help would be appreciated. It does not sound like a pcv valve. It is much louder, you can hear it reflect off the road when youre driving.
