Use of Oil Additive to fix smoking issue?

Hi!
My '01 Zafira 2.2 uses about 1ltr oil per 1000miles. The engine otherwise pulls fine and sounds fine, and the car has only done 75k. It leaves a blue fog behind when giving it the beans. It doesn't really matter, but it's a bit of a pain always topping up the oil (and risking running low).
My research on these boards leads me to think the problem is with the oil wiper/scraper rings being gunked up and stuck - seems a common problem with this engine.

I wondered whether anyone has had success by using one of the many additives/cleaners on offer? I've read some US forums where pouring some through the plug holes has worked, or put it in the crankcase.

I'd rather not waste my time and money if no-ones had any joy!

only calmed mine down , and made it a little less embarrasing in traffic under load or on a steep hill it still bilged smoke!
in the mean time your rings will still be stuck and (i believe in my case) will rape the shit out of the bores causing more wear and damage.
its allright if all your trying to do is make it a few months.

the additives do work to a point as the americans put some in a car ran it then emptied the oil and drove it right the way accross america to prove the point, the engine still died or was near to death tho.
