Is this a miss fire?

My 2.2 Vectra has had a dull spot just below 2k revs for a while, im in the process of investigating this, cleaned TB new air and fuel filters.. But its still there.

On the way to work this morning the dull spot went from a slight hesitation at 2k revs to refusing to go over 50ish (not good on the motorway slip road) and chugging and coughing like a bastard not responding at all!

Would this be classed as a miss fire?

Im planning on blanking the EGR, new plugs also maybe the Coil Pack. Does this sound like the right things to do?

P.S the BASTARD chains from HELL went and were replaced 18months ago...

Have you been able to get a fault code reader on to check if the ECU is detecting a miss fire?

It wasnt showing a faul or EML while it had the dull spot and havnt had a chance to check since it through its hissy fit on the way to work this morning... no EML though?

I would take your egr valve off and check its not stuck open slightly. Seen it before & that was cause to missfire - with no EMl.......

Get yourself a blanking plate & cheater from the shop on here. Much cheaper than a new egr. Once you've done this and you still got issues get any codes read off the ecu.

Ok...

had the ECU checked and it brought up 4 codes

MAF
Lambda and EGR

then had it checked with tech 2 and got 17 codes! ABS and all kinds.

any way mechanic sugested replacing the MAF as he unpluged it and took the car out and he says it drove fine?

Should i be asking any questions or does this sound right, i suppose the MAF could cause the EGR and Lambda errors...

p.s does £145 for a MAF sound right, seems a bit steep to me?

The 2.2 doesn't have a MAF

Iv heard that, apparently they added them (or removed them) similer to the small oil jet nozle situation mine didnt have that (but the chain still snapped!)

Yeah that sounds right.. one thing that bothers me is, could he have unpluged the MAF and driven the car to iliminate the fault?

I thought the MAF is needed to run smooth its not like the EGR which you can disconnect?

What exact 2.2 do you have, is it a Vec c, and if so is it a Direct (YH) or none direct (SE)? If its a C were there codes for ABS, TC, can bus communication, power steering?

PS is it an Estate? Might sound daft but all Vec C estates have the Direct (YH) engine fitted even 02's.

Im not sure as was concentraiting on the MAF problem but yes they could well be the codes.

Not an estate then? A common fault on early Vec c's is the CIM modual. Steering angle sensors are in there so affects tc, abs,power stearing, indicators, imobiliser, dash dials and loads of other systems. Sometimes however a dirty abs plug throws the same codes and causes the car to suffer from the same faults. Mine did all this a few years ago but I sorted it by simply unplugging the abs plug and giving it a little squirt with wd40.

will the car run ok with the MAF disconected? a relative has similer symtoms to my vectra on her signum, the mechanic said he disconected my MAF and it drove fine thats how he new to replace it, this sounds a bit fishy to me though i thought the with the MAF un pluged the car would run like sh!te?

I think the car runs on a baseline if you disconnect the MAF. You will get a fault code however so you will need to reset that or just disconnect the battery for 20 mins.
