P0601 code on 2.2 sri

Hello,
I have a vectra 2.2 sri petrol and it was giving me trouble, thought it was my EGR and you guys were really helpfully giving my info on how to clean and test it, turns out EGR is working fine. Got hold of a solus pro code reader and tested my vectra, not good it came up with code P0601 Internal Control Module Memory Check Sum Error.

I read on here that a guy bought a 2nd hand Ecu with transponder and key chip, it was plug and play. does this work or am i going to have to take a trip to vauxhall.

The car has a mind off its own just random cut out and takes about 2-5 mins to start again after the cut out, almost totally undriveable

Any ideas?

Does the code reader bring codes up from all moduals or just the ECU? What reg is you Vec C mate, is it an Estate or Signum?

When it cuts out does it just go dead or does it go into limp mode, as in does it have enough power to get you to the side of the road or does it just completely shut down? If it goes into limk is it when you put your foot down or get to about 3000 rpm?

Should bring up all moduals, it a snap-on solus, pritty expensive, on loan thankfully. think its a 03/52 hatchback

when it cuts out there is no power at all, no limp home mode just hope there is enough speed to pull it in safely. completely shuts down and will not start for a few mins. when you turn the key after shut down nothing happens, after a few mins it will fire up but cut out again half a mile down the road.

The eml will come on then a few seconds later the battery light as it cuts out.

alright rushy, scanned the other moduals like you suggested and got a bunch off new codes. went throught the whole system and got these

U2111 - CAN-Bus No Communication With EHPS (Electro-Hydaulic-Power-Steering)
U2105 - CAN-Bus No Communication with ECM (Engine Control Module)
U2108 - CAN-Bus No Communication with ABS (Anti-Lock Brake System)
U2139 - CAN-Bus No Communication with CIM (Steering Column Module)
U2103 - No Communication with CAN-Bus ABS (High Speed)
C1523 - System Voltage Low Voltage

seems to be a lot of can bus faults, going to looking in to them and find out what the low voltage is about

They all go through the CIM modual which is a common failor on our aged Vec C's. The immobiliser is also in there. Has the dash ever died, as in all the dials fall while driving? Also another fault that can cause this is the ABS plug, yet again a week point on early Vec C's, the pins/contacts get moist/dirty. When my car randomly wouldnt start and I had all problems with ABS/TC power steering and the rest I was first advised to give the ABS plug a squirt with contact cleaner or WD40. Since then the car has run fine for the last 4 years.

Pull the bit with the faint red ring around it and the plug should lift off.

No joy, had breakdown cover on my insurance and the guy just scratched his head and asked where i would like it taken to. had arranged for it to go to vauxhall. They think it is the ECU and are going to do a few tests to make sure. should hear from them 2day.

Got my car back from vauxhall the other week and it turns out it was the ECU. They replaced it and programed it, the car is now running fine. cheers for the advice
