EGR? or other?

Hi im new to this forum n new to vauxhalls..

i recently purchased an x reg astra bertone coupe 2.2 with the z22se engine. Ive noticed a flat spot sometimes when booted... i recently put an ashley system on with no centre silencer and i put a cone filter on but 2 days later my emissions light (diagram of engine) not the car with a spanner in it light (eml) came on constantly.. i searched the net and found cone filters are bad for these engines due to heat soak so replaced it with the standard one...light still on!!. Could heat soak cause the emmisions light? or even the exhaust or cone filter cause it to light ? is it related to the flat spot? could the flat spot be related to a dodgey egr valve? the flat spot only happens after a booting then repressing the acc after changing gear. Im thinking about the egr cheater too.... any advice would be greatful ....if you could keep with it 😃

Must say its a dream to drive other than the little flatspot.

Best to get the code read off the ecu before going any further. it could be something really simple.....like egr notsure.gif

Code readin is planned next week..just wondering if egr cheater worth a go first..its only a tenner... any thoughts...the pedal test doesnt seem to work...is it true it doesnt work on z22se or do i need to do it differently?? any other cheap ideas before the code reading??

Ive never managed to get the pedal test to work. EGR blanking plate & cheater are a good mod anyway so worth considering.

So cheater recommended anyway...good good...is there any prob with leavin the valve (just wondering) n only plugging in cheater?? Will the cheater remove the emissions light you think??

You can leave the EGR in place but for the cost of a blanking plate i would just take it out completely.

EML light you would need to get the code read to be sure.

yeah egr blanking plate is just over £4 from vauxhall and its a nice thick solid plate not like some of the thin rubbish on the bay worth getting from vauxhall got one on my 2004 vec sri along with cheater and stoped eml light from keep coming on, gona get one for my astra coupe bertone once its up and running aswell

So fitted the cheater just now...(getting blanking plate from vx tomorrow) not been for a drive yet theres too much traffic here at the min...before i do tho i was just wondering... if the egr valve was the problem.... would the cheater turn the engine light off or would i have to get it looked at on diagnostics. i ticked it over and the light stayed but as i say not driven it yet

You can disconnect the battery for 30 minutes to clear the fault code after fitting the EGR cheater.

Just gone for a spin n no flatspot...YES!!!... thanks for the headsup ill try the battery thing.

just a quick update. Disconnecting the battery worked ..... so loads of thanks to you guys for the info. Thanks especially to Vocky for his lil cheater. This forum has saved me a nice sum of money
