Well just spent today stripping the bottom end out of me car ready for a replacement. Engine went bang, threw a rod. I suffered a massive fuel spike (rich-lean-rich) approx 4100rpm. Heres a few pics .....

I took the head off last weekend to find a missing piston dunno..

Today i found all this damage...... and yes that was a knife edge crank with pistons all balanced to 0g :wave: :evil:

Tomorrow im going to give everything a good clean.

The good news is the head suffered very minor damage. 2 bent valves, hydraulic tappit broken & a spark plug with its head chopped off....

Any idea what caused the fuel spike?? Was this one of Lee's builds as well?

It was 1 of Lee's builds but I never had the ecu mapped to that engine so its my own fault really. I did have the old ECU from the frog but should have had it remapped.

This just highlights that if you modify - get the ecu mapped to your mods!

Thanks for the offer Mike. Im halfway on the rebuild project with eagle rods this time. Luckily the head & cams was salvageable too. Ive also got a standard engine sitting here that i managed to pick up at my local scrappy. Once im done rebuilding ill have some extra parts to sell.

Ill have a core engine, std exhaust manifold, couple fuel rails, few coil packs and an alternator.

95% of the damage was contained in the bottom end, even the chains survived!

Ill start a new thread for that but ive got a box of bits to fit when weather gets warmer. Parts include vec c intake pipe, traction switch & loom, matching grey seatbelts, Titan's rear light clusters (clear indicator not yellow), depo shark eye lights & headlight washer system oh and my collection of Powerflex bushes. Then going to look for a decent interior.

Engine will be same as before but with eagle rods. Mite put the 2.4 manifold on too. Im also hoping i can get a nice polished pipe for between the Tb and airbox :wink: :wink: :wink:

UPDATE: Well got all the parts ready to rebuild now. Head has been fully reconditioned with new guides, seals & valves etc. Ive assembled the head with cams, followers etc ready for fitting. Bottom end has got the balance shaft delete mod & water pump/thermostat housing fitted. Knife edge crank standing by too. Ordered some new snap rings for the pistons which arrive wednesday. Ill add some pictures soon.

I was considering giving the engine a coat of high temp paint but cant decide what colour......any opinions what would go with star silver?
