Camshafts....

Hiya,

Considering new camshafts for a little performance gain, not too sure about regrinds, but what would you guys recommend for a Vec B?

Roughly how long will the swap take a general home modder with good guidance from an experenced mecanic?

And can I just swap the cams, or do other things need swapping / replacing too?

I had piper regrinds in mine for a couple of months, they apparently give up to 10bhp although I never had this measured.

I class myself as a 'general home modder' and it took me about 2 hrs following a haynes book. I also had a timing tool which helped a lot though as it held the sprockets while I changed the cams over.

Yes you can just swap the cams, but you need two new cam sprocket bolts, some sealant for the bearing cap at the end of the inlet cam and plenty of assembly lube.

Piper regrinds will give you a nice little smile when you put your foot down 😃

However they do make the idle a bit lumpy on a standard ecu and they work best with the pre-cat removed & ported head. A remap of the ecu can fix the lumpy idle too :thumbup:

2 hours sounds okay to me, anyone know where I can get a remap done in East Anglia, preferably in Colchester, Bury, Cambridge or Ipswich? How much will one cost approx?

you won't need a remap just for cams, the ecu will relearn if you disconnect the battery for 10 minutes and then drive moderately for 30 or so miles

My Piper cams went in today at the same time as chain swap. Car feels very good.
