steering rack

hi everyone my steering rack is leaking really bad so i got myself a good rack off i scrap vectra, the lad at scrap yard said put new rack on and take my track rod`s off and ends in 1 and put them on the new rack and i wont need to get it tracked, could this be done?

I wouldn't believe that. The car the you took the rack from could have worn parts and tracked accordingly. This could be the difference of night and day between your car.

Get it tracked properly. For the sake of £20?

the rack needs 1 new track rod end and mine are both 2 month old thats why he said take my track rod and end off in 1 and put them on the other rack because i was telling him that they cant get tracking gear on my rear wheels with my 19s on, think am abit stuck now then notsure.gif

I suspect you are thinking they hook something onto your tyre for basic laser wheel alignment. Have a look at the link below. The company i goto use that machine for all 4 wheels (does not hook onto tyre). Have a look about your area for a firm using the same/similar machines :thumbup:

gutted there far away from me, yer everyone round here hook over the wheels, so think going to have to lend some wheels if just putting my rods on that rack will be no good
