What is this? Theres oil leaking from it!

Hey guys, ive had a slow oil leak for a while and have narrowed it down to one spot in particular where i think its coming from. Im not too sure what this part of the car is but i think in may be the water pump? Here are some pictures any ways.

Oil seems to be coming out that box area..

If i put heat resistant silicon in there will it stop the leak temporarily?

yes thats the classic leaking water pump oil seal 🙁

it rarely gets any worse, so leave it until you can get the water pump replaced :thumbup:

What is that cavity there for anyway? I have to use the car every day to get to and from work, so will plugging it up with silicone stop the oil level going down?

it will just leak from somewhere else on the pump, the internal seal has rusted and caused the oil seal to fail.

only fix is another pump 🙁
