There is a field remedy for this on TIS, I don't know if it has anything to do with your very dim lights but sounds like the immobilizer needs to be reprogrammed

Complaint: Trouble code P1614 stored in ECU.
Cause: In some cases transponder codes lost due to discharged battery.
Production:
Remedy:
In case of customer complaint proceed according the following
instruction:
- Perform SPS reprogramming.
Problem still exist ->
- Delete transponder key. Program new key (Immo Generation 2).
Problem still exist ->
- Reset ECU in Immobiliser "Additional Functions",
Activate Immobiliser in "Programming Function".
Problem still exist ->
- Reset Immobilizer in Immobiliser "Additional Functions",
Activate Immobiliser in "Programming Function".
Problem still exist ->
- Replace ECU.
