Hi,

Just purchased my 2.2 55 Reg Vectra SRi today....really liking the car so far.

Bought it as a car to use for work as recently had to start driving again rather than commuting by train as a result of a contract change.

My car has just clicked over onto 40k miles and got a few questions about it...I am searching too but any info people could provide would be greatly received.

I have done a load of reading about the timing chains and looking to establish if the issues were fixed when my car would have been built? How often should the chains be replaced and when should I be thinking about doing it? Is it an easy swap ( i am quite competent)? What does it cost roughly for chain kit and swap? Any good places to get it done in the rugby area if I decided not to do it myself?

Anything else I should be looking out for? Everything seems to be working well and the car has a full (although indie) service history and I will probably start all of the routine servicing myself.

Wheres the best place to buy consumables....are most going to vaux dealers or using the likes of euro car parts? Whats best oil for it?

I have noticed I am getting a bit of a knock from the front but only when I go over big speed bumps...does not happen at an other times. Will get the wheels of it tomorrow for a look but any common failures of suspension components at the 40k miles region?

Sorry for all the questions....again any advice would be greatly appreciated.

For me I would like mine changed chain every 40k to be on safe side
Z22se is a great engine if look after it well then it all good

Welcome mate, you have the Z22YH, so the oil jet isnt a problem for you, but the tensioner can still go. I think you should be looking at changing the chain after about 70-80k, with the new kit will come the updated tensioner if its a gen GM kit. Factory the car will have come with 5w35 oil but most of us tend to use 10w40, Autovaux sell gen GM oil at very good prices, £12 for 10w40 against £40 for 5w35 from the dealers.http://www.autovaux.co.uk/LoadPortal.as ... 5&vnum=137

The knocking you have from the front is the drop links, there easy to change, just 2 bolts. It seams both ebay and gen GM ones last just as long as each other and will go again in another couple of years but you can also fit an upgraded set for the Saab 93 (same car just different lid).

There are a few guys on the forum who do the chains, if you look for the Mechanics map you'll find there info.mechanic_map.php

Great stuff many thanks for the reply. Will get myself a set of the drop links and swap them over during the few days off between Xmas and new year. Going to change the oil, filter, fuel filter, plugs etc at the same time as will need the car in ood order then for travelling back ankd forwards from work.

I did have it out today for a run and for about 2 seconds had the warning light with the spanner flash up with reduced power which then immediately went off and the car returned to normal...any ideas what that could be?

Have you got a fault code reader you can use to see if there are any stored faults which may have caused it to go into limp mode?

No not yet but I might get one and have a look. I drove the car 180 miles today all in and it never missed a beat. Looking in the handbook there is reference to it flashing on and going off which is something that should not be worried about....have the siemens pump and not knowing if the regulator has been changed though made my mind race :crazy:

I bought a U480 fault code reader when I bought my Vectra C, and it worked a treat on it:
