Poor performance

Hello,

I have a problem with acceleration in general, it doesn't seem to pull as it used too. Occasionally if I get to 4500 and above the power backs off as if I'm hitting the limiter? No fault codes and I have replaced the plugs, fuel filter, air filter, cts and tried an egr cheater. Any ideas would be gratefully received! Also I replaced the chain a couple of years or so ago, due to it jumping a tooth, it was fine until recently! Thanks.

Hello,

It's a Z22SE. I tried a secondhand coil pack yesterday but to no avail! Unless two coil packs have the same fault which is pretty unlikely really! Cheers!

Throttle body take it off and clean it with carb cleaner it might be sticky

Pre cat problem or try a vacuum check, this will give you a better idea of whats wrong if no codes present

Hello,

Thanks for the help, I have cleaned the throttle body and visually checked all the hoses. An Rac mate of mine suggested fuel starvation, he asked if it was better with more fuel in the tank. I took out a loan and filled the car up and it did seem better. Think I'll whip out the fuel pump and check the filter on that and check the delivery rate. Hope that fixes it, having read the forums the pre cat was next but I'm thinking that may be a mare! Once again thanks for the guidance!

Slight update, sorry if I'm boring people now! Checked internal fuel filter and pump bowl etc, all not too bad! Thinking Pre cat, just how common is that to fail? Unless there are other ideas?? Thanks

The precats have been known to break up and block the main cats before now. Worth dropping the downpipe for a look. If its okay I would take it out anyway.

Thanks, I was sort of trying to avoid that, just imagining snapped bolts and two knackered lambda sensors! I have also heard doing that mod can knacker the lambda's? Thanks again

Yet another update!

Put my foot down last night, same symptoms as before but the eml light flashed and now I have fault code P0300. Random/multiple misfire. I have not yet got around to dropping the cat! Any ideas? Thanks!

Me yet again!!

I'm sure now it's the pre cat! 150_SRI had the exact same fault! I only found it when I searched on here for the fault code! Thanks for all the assistance, it is greatly appreciated! I'll whip off the pipe as soon as weather permits!

as long as you you thouroughly clean/blow all the crap out of the down pipe you should be fine, i think what you are referring to is the debris being heated and sticking to the cat and lambda which can cause problems.
you could always use a hoover while you drill which would save some of the crap from going down the down pipe.

I have finally got around to taking my pre cat out, it was in quite a mess as can be seen from the photo! The car runs like a dream now so thanks for all the replies! 😃
