fitting a new Z22SE engine, have they changed the cams ?

hi all,

just bought a new Z22SE engine for my Vectra.

Everything was on it, apart from the power steering pump, and alternator.
I've fitted the alternator, then , i went to fit the power steering pump.

My power steering pump is situated at the right hand side of the engine, which gets driven of one of the cams. But, on this new engine, the end of the cam is different ! help !

Did they change the camshaft on the Z22SE engine at some time?
if so,
Where does the power steering pump get driven from now?

I cant work it out, I thought, ALL Z22SE engines are the same, but obviously not.

Would I need to buy a new cam for the engine, so, my power steering pump can run from it, ?

any help again appreciated.

I'm starting to pull my hair out fast ! lol

On the l8r engine they did away with the pump drive on the cam,and i think the astra's didnt have it at all as there pas is electric driven,why dont u take the cam out of ure old engine and fit it to ure new one..

sorry, no pictures yet.

I was going to take the cam out of the old engine, and put it in the new one,

I have removed the cam from my old engine at the moment, and stripped down the new engine, but not yet removed the timing chain.

I didnt really want to put an old cam from a 100,000 mile engine, into a brand new shiny and clean engine !

Would the old cam still be exactly the same? apart from the end of it i mean.

I wonder how the vectra's with the new engine work the power steering, is that electric i wonder?

Anybody got a rough price on a new cam from vauxhall? if its to dear, i'll fit the old cam of the old engine

the inlet cam on the vectra b is different to the rest of the 2.2 range,only the vectra b had a power steering pump,the vx220 never had a/c or p/s,the astra and vectra c had a/c as the steering is electronic

The above is indeed true. Courtenays phoned yesterday to say that they've had to carry out extra machining on the new Schrik cams because the end of the cam doesn't have the ability to drive the power steering.
